Dear Parents & Guardians,

We are off to an amazing start to the 2018-19 school year! Because you are reading this newsletter, you are making one of the most powerful commitments to your child’s education by keeping up-to-date on critical information from school. We are truly dedicated to making communication and a strong partnership a top priority. Here’s to a year of accomplishments for the children we share!

All the very best,

Lori Riti

NEWS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

MORNING ARRIVAL

The morning drop off procedure has been adjusted slightly to improve safety for students. For students arriving before 8:00 and using Before Care, we are no longer dropping students at Door 6. Instead, please proceed all the way forward in the left lane to Gate “D”. Whenever possible, students should exit from the side facing the school. Students will proceed to Door 6 for Before Care.  Please do not attempt to pass any vehicle that is in front of you, so that children may pass safely to Gate D.

REMIND

Every family must be signed up for this text messaging service. If you have not signed up yet, please do it today 😊. Directions are enclosed, and it just takes a moment. This texting service is the only way we can get critical information to you in the event of an emergency, cancelled bus service, etc. We promise to be conservative in our texting frequency.

EDSBY PORTAL

Edsby is the student information system that facilitates communication with parents and students regarding current grades, report cards, homework, and classroom announcements. Parents are required to maintain an account on Edsby. If you have any difficulty accessing your account, please contact Sarah Barrow at sbarrow@delasallefm.org or 239-245-8212.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

There are many options for earning your 20 volunteer hours at De LaSalle. Some are on campus and some can be completed from home. If you volunteer on campus, be sure to log your time at the front office. For off-campus activities, please send your information to Gerri Anne Duke in the front office (gduke@delasallefm.org). As opportunities arise, we will be sure to announce them in the Wednesday Letter. Here are a few to get you started:

  • Lunchroom – Lunch is served from 11:45-12:35 on regular school days. If you can help with the serving line, we would be very grateful. Please email Lfigueroa@delasallefm.org if you are interested in volunteering one or more lunch periods per week.
  • School Library – We are desperately in need of help to organize the library and assist classes in the mornings when they visit to check out and return books.
  • Box Tops for Schools – The Box Tops Coordinator tracks contributions and organizes our submissions for points earned. This can be done on your own time from home.
  • Family Fun Fest – Attend the event with your family and serve some volunteer time while you’re there. (See below for more info). The volunteer info for the event was provided at Open House. Please send it to school now so the committee can finalize plans 😊.
  • Cow Pie Bingo – Earn 2 volunteer hours for every 20 tickets sold (See below for more info.)
  • Parenting with Love & Logic – Participants may earn up to 9 hours. (See below for more info.)

FAMILY FUN FEST!!!

Please join us on Saturday, September 22 from 11:00-3:00 for this wonderful opportunity to connect with other De LaSalle families, build community, and have a blast! The Parent Community Association Family Fun Fest Committee has an awesome day planned with inflatable attractions, games and contests, face painting, music, and free food and drinks. But, the highlight of the day might just be the Cow Pie Bingo extravaganza! The cost for the event is only $2.00 per person, so bring the whole family!

COW PIE BINGO TICKETS

This is one of the best fundraising traditions at De LaSalle! Who doesn’t love Cow Pie Bingo? Enclosed, you will find an informational flyer and 20 tickets for you to sell at $5 each. Please help the Parent Community Association reach its fundraising goals by selling your tickets. The cow will provide us with a winner at the Family Fun Fest on September 22. Please return all stubs, funds, (and unsold tickets ☹) to school by September 17.

SNACK SHACK

The Snack Shack is going mobile! This year, snacks will be available for sale on the field and on the playground. Snack prices are generally $.25 to $.50. The Snack Shack opens on Monday, August 20.

FALL TESTING

The Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) assessment will be given in the mornings on August 28-30. Well rested, well fed students who arrive to school on time have the most positive testing experience 😊. This baseline testing provides us with information about what your child is ready to learn and gives us a basis for comparison with January and May test administrations.

PARENTING WITH LOVE & LOGIC

As you know, De LaSalle Academy uses the Love & Logic © approach to behavior management. This effective method is also great for parents. Ms. Monika Urbanska, our former teacher and counselor is offering a 6-week workshop for parents and caregivers to learn the Love & Logic techniques that are so successful with students here at school. The workshop begins on September 14 and will be held on Fridays through October 19 from 6:00-7:30 here at De LaSalle. Please see the enclosed flyer for more information. BONUS: Parents who attend can earn up to 9 volunteer hours!
