August 30, 2017 Wednesday Letter

Dear Parents & Guardians,

On September 26, we will have the first Parent-Community Association (PCA) Meeting of the school year. We responded to your feedback from last year and have reduced the number of required meetings from four to only two.  For this reason, we are looking for every family to have at least one representative at the meeting. Your PCA is planning other opportunities to come together at “focus group” meetings throughout the year that are centered on a topic of interest identified through your parent survey last year. The focus group meetings will be optional. Our goal is for the PCA to be a meaningful way for parents to participate in school life at De LaSalle.  Your commitment is truly valued.

We have observed at morning drop off that some cars are entering the wrong driveway and causing a dangerous situation in our ONE WAY parking lot. PLEASE enter from Techster at the west end of the parking lot near the Library building when dropping off students in the morning, not the east driveway closest to Plantation.

Thank you for making a point to assist your child with organizing the school binder at home. We will do the same at school. The red folder and student planner should be checked daily, plus parents now have Edsby as an information resource. Homework will be posted in both the planner and on Edsby.  We want to ensure that you have every opportunity to be informed and up-to-date on homework, student progress and other happenings.

Regarding emails, staff have been instructed not to use Edsby for emailing parents because the Edsby program does not interface with our Microsoft Exchange server. Please use the contact list on our school website when emailing school staff so we can have continuity of communication with you.

This week, a change has been made in our therapy team. Ms. Madeline Rochelle will be serving as interim school counselor while we interview candidates for a permanent replacement for Mrs. Strom. We wish Mrs. Strom the best in her new endeavors. Ms. Rochelle is a retired school counselor with decades of experience working with students in the school setting, including children with special needs. She joined De LaSalle’s team as a substitute teacher last year so she is very familiar with our mission, procedures, and many of our current students. Ms. Rochelle can be reached at Mrochelle@delasallefm.org or by calling the school office. Rest assured that administration and teachers are working closely with Ms. Rochelle to ensure continued support for all students.

Have a wonderful week!
