February 3, 2016 Wednesday Letter

WEDNESDAY LETTER

February 3, 2016

Dear Parents,

I want to thank everyone in our De LaSalle family for making our WinterFest such a success. The spirit of volunteerism is a major contributor to the success of non-profit organizations and De LaSalle is no exception!  It was great to see our students and parents enjoying a great day and to see so many members of the Fort Myers community, too! Special thanks go out to the WinterFest committee, officers of the Home & School Association, Bonnie Ross and James Robinson.

Next week on February 9-11, we will administer the winter segment of the Measures of Academic Progress standardized tests in reading, language arts and math. We appreciate on-time arrival especially on these days as testing takes place first thing in the morning. Students are encouraged to get a good night’s sleep and eat a hearty breakfast. Mid-year testing assists teachers with planning for the balance of the school year and long range goal-setting for students. Results will be shared with parents after the spring administration, or upon request.

Gratefully,

Mrs. Riti

NEWS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

2016-17 REGISTRATION FOR RETURNING STUDENTS

The deadline to re-register and pay the registration fee is FEBRUARY 16, 2016.  Students who are not registered by the deadline are not guaranteed a seat for the 2016-17 school year. Open enrollment for new students begins on February 17. Many prospective new students are awaiting word on enrollment availability and will be offered seats on February 17, so please be sure to register on time. Because we are at capacity this year and not adding any new homerooms, availability of seats will be affected. Please register on time.

TUITION ASSISTANCE AND FLORIDA SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMS FOR 2016-17

McKay Scholarships: Renewal is handled annually by Mrs. Laverty in the school office.

PLSA:  Parents must reapply each year with the PLSA organization. The PLSA renewal begins in March.

De LaSalle Scholarships:  The scholarship committee meets in mid-March.  All financial aid applications and tax information must be complete before the committee will review the application. (See attached letter for details.)

PET DAY

We invite your pets to school on Friday, February 12 from 2:00-3:15. A flyer went home earlier with details about our event. Your child’s $2 donation buys a NUT Day on the day of the event. Doggie treat sales and a beta fish raffle will also be held throughout the week. Proceeds will benefit a local animal foundation selected by the Student Government. We will have a special performance by the Special Equestrian Drill Team! There will also be a puppy on campus ready for adoption from the Human Society! Remember that adults must supervise leashed pets or handheld pets at all times while on campus. Animals in small tanks and cages are welcome for the day with prior approval of homeroom teachers.

PAPER TOWELS

The school is in desperate need of paper towels.  All paper towel donations will be greatly appreciated.

MIDDLE SCHOOL DANCE

Students in Ms. Hernandez and Mrs. Madera’s homerooms, along with 8th graders in any other level are invited to a Middle School Dance on Friday, February 19, 3:30-5:30.  Cost is $15.00 per person, which includes dance admission, pizza, soda, water and cookies. RIG Entertainment will be our DJ once again. Dress code for this dance is INFORMAL, NUT DAY ATTIRE.  Close toed athletic shoes required.
