March 7, 2018 Wednesday Letter

Dear Parents & Guardians,

De LaSalle Academy is fortunate to have a vibrant and engaged Board of Directors that guides administration and staff in the overall governance, sustainability, and growth of the school. This year, the Board’s Fund Development Committee is launching what we hope to become our annual signature fundraising event to benefit the scholarship fund for De LaSalle families that need financial assistance. “Beacon of Hope” is open to the public and will take place on April 15 at Marine Max in Fort Myers. We are grateful to the members of the board and parent and community volunteers for the many hours they have dedicated to the success of this event. For information about the event, tickets, and sponsorship opportunities, please go to http://delasallefm.org/beacon-of-hope-fundraiser/ or contact James Robinson at jrobinson@delasallefm.org.

Like many schools across the nation, De LaSalle has been evaluating security and safety procedures in the wake of the recent tragedy in Coral Springs. We have a comprehensive Critical Incident Response Plan to address emergency situations in addition to providing regular drills and trainings for staff and students. Recently, we reviewed our operation and found the need to enhance the security at dismissal time. Beginning on Monday, March 26 when we return from spring break, we will add a new procedure to dismissal time. In next week’s Wednesday Envelope, you will receive two copies of a green “Pick-Up Card” with your child’s last name printed on them. You are asked to place the Pick-Up card on your vehicle’s dashboard on the driver’s side. School personnel will release students only to vehicles that have the Pick-Up Card displayed. If the card is not available, the parent or other person listed on the Authorized Pick-Up List will be asked to park and come into the office to pick up their child. It is our goal that this new procedure will add yet another layer of security at school. We appreciate your understanding and support!

On March 1st, three members of our De LaSalle community were honored by the Step Up for Students organization as recipients of the Rising Stars Award. Carmella Geraci received the Turn Around Student Award. Mrs. Kris Pica was honored with the Phenomenal Family Member Award, and Mrs. Sharon Beshore received the Exceptional Teacher Award for the positive impact she has had in over forty years in special education. We are so proud of each of you!

All the best,

Lori Riti

3rd QUARTER CONFERENCES

Enclosed you will find the Conference Preference Form for 3rd Quarter. For this marking period, both teachers and parents have the option to request a conference. If neither the parent nor the teachers make a request, then a conference is not needed. Please review your child’s form to see if teachers requested a meeting or use the form to initiate a request, if you wish. We would be grateful to have the forms back by tomorrow so we can create our conference schedule and send out appointment times before spring break.
