October 11, 2017 Wednesday Letter

Dear Parents & Guardians,

The end of the first quarter is upon us this Friday!! Thanks to Irma, the quarter-end seems to have arrived sooner than everyone expected. We are back in the swing of things, however, and looking forward to conferences and many exciting events in the weeks and months ahead. The Wednesday Letter and your Edsby calendar are your best sources for information on school happenings.

As you know, this letter and many attachments are sent electronically, as well as on paper. Some documents, such as invoices, field trip forms, report cards, graded work, and many other types of information specific to just your child or a small group of students will not be sent electronically. If you like to read the Wednesday Letter online, please be sure to still check the Wednesday Envelope for other items that may be included.

Best Regards,

Lori Riti

Office staff worked diligently to prepare the parent-teacher conference schedule for conferences on October 26-27. Your scheduled appointment time is enclosed in the Wednesday envelope. PLEASE check the form and return just the bottom portion to school tomorrow so we can confirm your appointment time.

This quarter, therapists will conference separately from teachers. We are hoping that this gives therapists more time to share their observations and address your concerns. If you wish to make an appointment with one or more therapists, please follow these instructions:

  1. View the instructional video for the scheduling app “Doodle” to learn how to schedule your conference. You can view the video at: https://youtu.be/O2oRHgx1pAM
  2. Click on the link next to the name of the therapist with whom you would like to meet and follow the directions described in the video. For your convenience, select a time either before or after your teacher conference. If meeting with more than one therapist, please schedule each meeting separately:

Ms. Urbanska/Ms. Rochelle (Counselors): https://doodle.com/poll/dn3hnn7hefk6hn39

Mrs. Galvin (Occupational Therapy):  https://doodle.com/poll/zvh9cfy462ynqda7

Mrs. Boyd (Speech): https://doodle.com/poll/vv55f7guaggnc78d

Ms. Orbeck (Social Communication):  Ms. Orbeck will be at a training during this time. Please email her directly if you wish to schedule either an in-person or phone conference with her.

A form was created through a joint effort of teachers and parents to facilitate conference discussions and make best use of the time we spend together. If you would like to give this a try, just complete the form and return it tomorrow so we can get it to teachers and therapists in time to prepare for conferences.

Due to Hurricane Irma, school picture day is rescheduled. Portraits will be taken in the morning on October 24. All students will be photographed. Order forms are enclosed in the Wednesday envelope. One form is for individual portraits and the other is for the school-wide panoramic picture. STUDENTS MUST BE IN SCHOOL UNIFORM (NO PE SHIRTS PLEASE).

It is our tradition to celebrate Halloween at school. It is an option for students to dress in costume or in NUT Day bottoms with a Halloween T-shirt, or just wear the school uniform. Students will “trick or treat” at about 12:45, parading to all of the classrooms and collecting treats. Your donation of wrapped individual candy is greatly appreciated!! Costumes must be approved by the homeroom teacher by October 25. A flyer was sent home last week with more information.

Homecoming and Tarpon Spirit Week will take place November 6-10. Lots of fun events will be happening that week, culminating on November 10 with an all-school pep rally in the afternoon and the high school Homecoming Dance in the evening. Look for more information next week!!

In a separate email, you will receive a copy of the De LaSalle School Directory. The directory only includes information previously authorized for release by parents and guardians.

This year at De LaSalle’s Family Fun Festival on November 18, we will have our annual Cow Pie Bingo fundraiser! This is an awesome, fun, and easy way to raise money for the school. Previously, parents were sent 20 tickets for to sell, along with more information about the fundraiser. Families can earn two volunteer hours for every 20 tickets sold. As a non-profit school, we rely heavily on fundraisers and we hope this one will be an amazing success! Stubs, money and unsold ☹ tickets are due by November 13.

De LaSalle is selling the LOCALINXS coupon book for Southwest Florida. The books are $20 and De LaSalle makes $10 for each book sold. This year’s coupon book has more offerings in general, and especially more for the Fort Myers area. Please buy a book for your family and sell copies to your family and friends! An order form was sent home last week. You may send in your order form and $$$ anytime between now and December 15. To request more books, please call James Robinson, 239-245-8212.

PDQ gift cards are on sale in the school office. Cards are valued at $10.00 and sell for $7.00.

Chess Club: Students have expressed an interest in having a Chess Club.  We are in need of someone to teach all levels of chess to club participants.  The commitment would be at least one club meeting per week, preferably on Wednesdays from 3:00 to 4:00. The club would run for about six weeks.  If this is a talent you have, please call the office at 239-245-8212 and ask for Bonnie Ross.

Knitting Club:  This new club starts on October 23! Please see the enclosed flyer for more information.

  • All-school Cheerleading:  A meeting for interested participants is set for October 17th at 6:30.
  • Middle and High School Boys Basketball:  A meeting for interested participants is set for October 17th at 6:30.

Come and join the Special Olympic Basketball team:  The Lee County Lions are looking for dedicated basketball players who want to have fun. The Special Olympics basketball team practices Saturday mornings at 10 AM at De La Salle Academy starting on October 21st. All ages are welcome to join the team, which is entering its second season. Players will learn basketball skills from a dedicated group of volunteer coaches while having fun playing with their teammates. If you are interested please call Bill Halter at 239-672-7974.
